SERVING WEST MICHIGAN

Function-First Organizational Design.

A home should function with ease, it should inspire and give positive energy, and it should bring a sense of pride and comfort. Together we will find solutions for your space that fit who you are and how you live. Creating space that works with you and not against you.

What I do & How I Help

Design for functionality. A solution-based, problem-solving kind of design.

Home Organization

When your home isn’t functional, piles and messes naturally build up—but with the right approach, we can find organizational solutions that make your space practical and enjoyable to use. Home organization is all about creating a space that works for your daily life, naturally reduces clutter, and eliminates the overwhelm.

Space Planning

If you have four active children and puppies, your living room will look much different than if you were a single lady who enjoys reading & an occasional visitor. We’ll start by talking about how your space is used, what furniture pieces need to stay and what needs to go. We’ll measure the existing room and furniture so I can draw up a few layouts! I’ll create a top-down view of your space and we’ll find the best solution for you.

Visual Communications

Visual communications help bring your design ideas to life by translating inspiration into a customized plan for your space. Whether it’s a built-in bench or another feature, I’ll create detailed drawings based on your measurements to explore different options. Once we finalize a design you love, I’ll provide dimensioned drawings for your tradesperson or DIY project.

Retail Design Support

Retail design support focuses on optimizing your space for functionality, flow, and aesthetics to enhance the shopping experience. With experience as a Travel Store Designer, I understand the importance of lighting, layout, and color distribution in driving sales. I’ll help you create a well-balanced, inviting space that maximizes both efficiency and customer engagement.

How It Works

My Process:

Sort

First things first…we sort out trash from treasure. This step is always slow as we work together to throw away any lingering trash or things you can part with easily. This helps me learn your thought process & what you value! Just a warning…it looks worse before it looks better!

Categorize

With trash filtered out, we’ll look at what you have and how best to categorize items. This step will help you visualize what percent of a hobby or category is taking up the most space and allow us to compare it to your overall goals. This makes the next step much easier!

Declutter

We’ll evaluate what we can sell, donate, or what we need to make space for. Often times this phase is where you feel more empowered to let things go without much prompting. Just remember….I am here to help & give advice but you will always get the final say!

Organize

This is the part where things start to come together. We’ll talk about how the space will function for you, make decisions on how to best lay out the space, and how to repurpose organizational tools you already have (i.e. bins, organizers, shelving).

Find Your WHY.

Diana

Facing a move to Texas in 8 weeks, I had to sell my cluttered Muskegon home despite physical and ADHD challenges. Over six weeks, Joycelyn helped me declutter, pack, and stage it. We sold and donated unneeded items—including $10,000 worth of crafting materials to West Michigan libraries—completed minor home improvements, and worked with a recommended realtor. As a result, the home sold within a week of listing—browse before-and-after photos from this project!

Lisa

As a newly single mom of four, I needed my home to function for both my family and my business. My goal was to create inviting, clutter-free family spaces while relocating business-related items. Overwhelmed by accumulated clutter, I sought to refresh my living areas with accessible storage and a style that reflects me—incorporating my children’s artwork into our home. The transformation is still in progress—browse before-and-after photos from this project!

Carla

As an artist in my late seventies, I want to create fine art again and focus on my passion for fashion, jewelry, and upcycling. To do this, I need to transform my cluttered basement into a safe and inspiring creative space. While I’m organized in most areas of my home, the basement has become overwhelming and unsafe to tackle alone. Limited mobility and the challenge of moving items up and down the stairs make decluttering difficult. The process is still ongoing—browse before-and-after photos from this project!
